# How the legal foundation is organized

The legal foundation gives the firm two apps, Law and Requests, the shared records every legal app uses, and access by section; consultations, cases, executions, contracts and agencies build on it.

The legal apps of Jaah are several modules that work as one system. The legal foundation is the module they all depend on: installing any of them brings it, and its records are the ones every legal file points to.

## Two apps in the home menu {#two-apps}

- **Law** holds the reference records: the lawyers, the courts and, when switched on, the judges. Its **Configuration** menu holds the practice areas, the circuits and the law settings.
- **Requests** holds the client requests: the work that reaches the firm before it becomes a consultation or a case. Its **Configuration** menu holds the reject reasons and the categories.

The other legal apps add their own menus next to these: consultations, cases with their hearings, executions, contracts, agencies.

## Shared records {#shared-records}

A lawyer, a court or a judge is recorded once and picked everywhere: the lawyer of a consultation, the court of a case, the judge of a hearing. Correcting a court's address corrects it in every file that names the court. A lawyer may be linked to a user who signs in; a user is linked to at most one lawyer.

Practice areas describe what each lawyer handles. They come pre-filled and are the firm's to rename, archive or extend.

## Access by section {#access-by-section}

Access is not one switch for "the legal apps". The **Legal Rights** section of a user has one level per section: **Lawyers**, **Courts**, **Judges** and **Client Requests**. **Read-only** shows the records, **Manager** also edits them and their configuration; client requests add a **User** level for the people who process requests without configuring the intake. The legal apps built on the base add their own sections in the same place.

## From request to file {#from-request-to-file}

A client request is the firm's intake. It arrives from the portal or is recorded by the firm, reaches the default lawyers with a deadline and a review activity, and ends in one of two ways: registered as a consultation or a case, which carries the client, the subject and the opposing party over, or rejected with a reason. The request types come with the apps that handle them, so the request form offers consultation or case once those apps are installed.

## Branches {#branches}

When the database holds several companies, the legal records carry a **Branch**. A court with no branch is shared by all of them.
