# Create a website

Add a second website to the same database from the Website settings, with its own name, domain and languages, then go through the setup wizard or skip it and start from an empty home page.

A database starts with one website. Add another when a brand, a branch or an audience needs its own address, menu and pages, while contacts, clients and apps stay shared. The website switcher of the app moves between them.

## Before you start {#before-you-start}

- You need the **Administrator** role and the **Editor and Designer** access right on **Website**.
- Decide the address the new website will answer at. You can leave it empty and add it later, but until then visitors cannot reach it: only users who choose it in the website switcher see it.

## Add the website {#add}

1. Open **Website/Configuration/Settings**. The top of the **Website** section shows the website the page applies to and **+ New Website**.

2. Click **+ New Website**. The **Add Website** window opens.
3. Fill **Website Name**, the only required field, for example `Website demo: Branch office`.
4. **Website Domain** takes the address, such as `https://branch.example.com`; leave it empty if the address is not ready.
5. **Company** shows when the database has several companies: the website, and the accounts its visitors create, belong to that company.
6. **Languages** lists the languages the website will offer, all the active ones at first, and **Default Language** the one used at its plain address.

![The Add Website window with its name filled; Create makes the website and opens the setup wizard.](https://jaah.app/web/image/16568-184a15ce/website-create-a-website-add_website-en.png)

7. Click **Create**.

**Create** makes the website with an empty home page and a copy of the main menu, makes it the website you work on, and opens the setup wizard over the whole screen. From the second website on, the website switcher and the **Shared Customer Accounts** option appear.

## The setup wizard {#wizard}

The wizard builds a first version of the site in four steps; until you reach the pages and features, each screen also offers **Skip and start from scratch**.

1. **Let's do it** starts it. You say what you want (a website, an online store, a blog, an event website or an elearning platform), your line of business and the main objective of the site.
2. You choose a color palette, or upload your logo and let the wizard detect its colors.
3. You tick the pages and features to add; installed ones are marked **Already installed**. A feature that belongs to an app not installed yet will install that app.
4. **Build my website** applies the default theme, the only theme the platform ships, adds the pages and features you ticked and opens the site.

The lines of business are read from an outside service of the software's publisher, which the wizard also asks for theme suggestions: the only calls to it the platform lets through, carrying no data of your firm. The service that would write texts stays closed, so the new pages keep the sample text and pictures of their blocks. If the service cannot be reached, the list of businesses stays empty: use **Skip and start from scratch**.

**Skip and start from scratch** applies the default theme and opens the empty home page, ready for [Add a page](add-a-page) and [Edit a page](edit-a-page).

## After the wizard {#after}

- Set the domain, name, icon and options of the new website in [Website settings](website-settings): choose it at the top of the page first.
- Its menu is its own from now on: [Edit the menu](edit-the-menu).

## FAQ {#faq}

### I closed the wizard halfway. {#wizard-closed}

The website exists already. While the wizard is not finished, opening the address `/website/configurator` on that website starts it again; **Skip and start from scratch** ends it for good.

### Can I delete a website? {#delete}

Yes, except the default website, the first one of the database. In [developer mode](/docs/general-settings/developer-mode-and-technical-menus), open **Configuration**, **Websites**, select it and delete it. Its own pages, menu and theme files go with it; a blog tied to it, or a contact that signed up on it while **Shared Customer Accounts** was cleared, must be moved or deleted first. Other contacts, invoices and records stay.

### Do the websites share pages? {#shared-pages}

Pages added by apps for every website are shared until one website changes them; each website's own pages and menu are separate. [How the website works](how-the-website-works#pages-and-menus) explains it.
