General settings and administration
General settings and administration is the administrator's shelf of Jaah: the company record, users and their access rights, languages, email servers, apps and the developer mode, from the first setup to day-to-day administration.
Tutorial 1
Set up the system for the first time
Complete the company record, invite the first users, add a language, point the system at your email servers and activate the apps your team needs, all from Settings.
How-to 6
Install, upgrade and uninstall apps
From the Apps page an administrator activates an app with its dependencies, upgrades an installed module, or removes it through a wizard that lists what will be deleted.
Create a user and set access rights
Create a user from the Users list with a name and a login email, choose the User or Administrator role and one access level per app, then let the invitation email deliver the password.
Companies and multi-company
Complete the company record, add a second company or a branch, choose which companies each user may open, and switch between them from the top bar.
Languages and translations
Activate a language from the Languages block of General Settings, let every user choose theirs in My Preferences, reload the translations after an upgrade and disable a language nobody uses any more.
Email: outgoing and incoming servers
Tick Use Custom Email Servers in General Settings, then create an outgoing SMTP server and test its connection, and an incoming IMAP or POP server that turns the mail it fetches into records.
Developer mode and the technical menus
Developer mode is a session switch that reveals the Technical menu, technical fields and the debug menu. Activate it from the Developer Tools block or with ?debug=1 in the address bar, and leave it when you are done.

Explanation 1
Access rights: groups, rules and what they mean
A user's rights come from groups. A group carries access rights per model (read, write, create, delete) and record rules that filter which records are reachable; roles, privileges and the default group decide which groups a user gets.
